Bravo Zulu

There is a reason that Flotilla 10-13 is consistently awarded the Flotilla Meritorious Achievement Award as the top flotilla in the Coast Guard's First District Southern Region, and a reason that we were designated the top flotilla in the nation in 2002 and again in 2004 by Boat/U.S.  We work as a team and are an active part of Team Coast Guard, however, it is often the exceptional efforts of individual members of that team that make the difference between a good flotilla and a truly OUTSTANDING flotilla.  This page will recognize those members as well as the TEAM commendations, awards, and recognitions they help us to achieve.

New AUXOP certifications.  Certification at the AUXOP (Auxiliary Operations Specialist) level takes dedication and many hours of study and formal training and it is a proud day for any Auxiliarist to achieve this designation.  The Auxiliarist must demonstrate proficiency and advanced skills in numerous areas, by taking and passing 6 specialty courses.  10-13 already has more than our share of members at this level (17 as of Dec 2006). August 2008 - You will notice that this particular page of our web site is getting quite long, but it is really only the tip of the iceberg as it only shows our awards since 2006.  To get a full sense of the well deserved awards and kudos we have gotten over the years, take a look at the 10-13 Awards listing in AUXDATA.  As of August 2008 it is showing a total of 800 awards achieved by current active member.  Even this figure does not do justice to 10-13's accomplishments, as it does not include the countless awards of those 10-13 members that have moved away, retired, or crossed the bar.  It does not even include ALL the awards of all the current active members.  Many of our awards are not included on this page, for instance the 16+ Flotilla Meritorious awards we have gotten over the past 21 years or so are not reflected for any of the active members.  That number alone would push our award count well over 1,000.  Those of you who have been with 10-13 for 15 years or more may remember the old GAP awards (the green ribbons - 6 or 7 different awards if I remember correctly) are also not included in AUXDATA.

Well Done and Bravo Zulu to all

COAST GUARD ACTIVITIES NEW YORK

CITATION: "For exceptionally meritorious service from 1 September 2002 to 01 February 2005 in extraordinary execution of multiple, multi-faceted elevated maritime security (MARSEC) operations and events of national significance, including the extended 2003-2004 MARSEC II and 2004 Focused MARSEC II periods, in the complex Port of New York/New Jersey.

The Operational Distinguishing Device is authorized.                Operational "O" Device

Steve Potts: Steve has been certified by the gold side as a Small Arms Range Safety Officer, December 2005.  In this role Steve will be involved in a relatively new program that is still forming.  He will be working with Coast Guard weapons officers to help train the regular and reserve Coast Guard men and women in improving their small arms skills at the Station Sandy Hook firing range.  This is a great example of what we can do in support of the Coast Guard using skills from our personal or professional life not just the things we learn as Auxiliarists.  Steve is an active member of several fire arms and shooting clubs, including the NRA (National Rifle Association), ANJRPC (Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs), Single Action shooting society, and NJ State federation of Sportsmen's clubs.  He is an NRA certified instructor and an NRA Certified Range Safety Officer.  Congratulations Steve!

Lauren Pugh and Ryan Kopack: New members, January 2006. Lauren and Ryan have joined 10-13.  Lauren has also volunteered to be our FSO-PB (Publications) officer.  Welcome aboard Lauren and Ryan!
